SFL Clients of the Month
Kathy Trow and Drew Pritchard
Congratulations to Kathy Trow and Drew Pritchard, our Strength for Life Clients of the month for September.
Drew and I have been at SFL for over a year now. We had been strength training for years but when FTclosed, we came with Joe to SFL. It is always hard to start a new routine, and we were a little nervous, but Jim and the staff at SFL made us
feel very welcome. Quickly, SFL became our fitness home.
There are many wonderful things about this place but what I appreciate the most is that the trainers at SFL make me feel like an athlete. I recognize that I am a middle-aged woman, but when I step foot in SFL I am encouraged to push myself to reach new PRs all the while
respecting that my body isn’t the same asit was in my 20’s.
It is better. Stronger. I train with Joe twice weekly and take Natalie’s classes once weekly (and supplement cardio with my Peloton at home). Because of this, I have been able to ride in support of Parkinson’s over 100 miles in a day. This year
we raised over $50K for the Michael J Fox Foundation. I couldn’t do that without the support of the SFL team.
When you push yourself you discover what you are capable of. Thank you SFL!
We are very happy and proud to have Kathy and Drew as part of our SFL community!
Maintaining Motivation to Stay Healthy and Fit
How does a sugar-addicted, sickly, depressed and angry teen with a bad temper turn his life around and become one of the healthiest, best known and loved fitness celebrities of all time? In his early teens, Jack LaLanne followed a poor diet heavy in sugar and sweets, experienced daily headaches and had behavior issues in school and home. His behavior was erratic
and he even tried to set his house on fire. At the age of thirteen, Jack became seriously ill and almost died from a fever that lasted almost two weeks.
Fortunately, Jack turned his life around by adopting a healthy lifestyle. His health and attitude improved and he embarked on a successful fitness career spanning more than seven decades, motivating countless people around the world to live healthier through exercise and good nutrition.

When Should I Add weight to an Exercise?
You have been working hard, lifting weights and are getting stronger. You know that to get stronger you will need to increase the amount of weight you are lifting. But how much weight should you add and when? You are at a crossroads in your training. This is the point where many people make the mistake of adding weight too soon.
So, how do you know when to add more weight to your exercises?
The answer is not as simple as it may seem. Ask yourself why you want to be stronger. Do you need to lift more weight to maintain or improve your health or fitness level? Will lifting more weight help you to burn more calories and improve your body composition? Will lifting more weight improve your sports performance?

Monthly Nutrition Tips
Kitchen Makeover
When was the last time your kitchen had a makeover? Now, we are not talking about new kitchen cabinets or a new floor, but making over the items you keep in your refrigerator, freezer and pantry.
Eating healthy can be a challenge. Life interferes with our plans. We are often in a rush to get kids to an event or practice, trying to manage a household, care for an aging relative or catching up on work. We are in “grab and go” mode with little thought about good nutrition or we try to use willpower to avoid unhealthy foods.
“Grab and go” and willpower are not long-term strategies that will get us to our goal of health. Our willpower is limited and when we just grab any available food, our choice is often the least healthy option available.

Teen Training
Is your son or daughter ready to start lifting weights?
Lifting Weights can help improve strength, fitness, and performance but only if done correctly. Proper technique and form should be taught before adding any weight to an exercise.
In Teen Training, your child will learn the proper way to lifts weights safely. They will also learn why each exercise is important, what muscle groups are targeted and be instructed by a professional in the field of strength training.
